Softshell fabric clothing is perfect for outdoor activities and in wet conditions, as it guarantees user comfort while providing great protection against a multitude of situations. Softshell clothing presents a combination of the best characteristics of hardshell fabrics and polar fabrics. In this way, softshells are elastic, breathable, have high water repellency and strong protection against the wind.
If water penetrates through the fabric of breathable softshell clothing, its breathability can be reduced by up to 70%. That is why it is important that softshell clothing retain Durable Water Repellency (DWR) to ensure comfort. The water repellent layer is lost with use, so it is essential to re-establish the Durable Water Repellency (DWR) of softshell garments with Nikwax SoftShell Proof Waterproofing. In this way, water absorption is avoided, while maintaining breathability.
If the softshell garment is dirty, it can cause water to be absorbed, so it must first be cleaned with Nikwax Tech Wash®, and in the event that the garment is new or has recently been waterproofed, this cleaning will suffice to restore the Durable Water Repellency (DWR).
However, with the use of the garment over time, the water repellency is lost, so after cleaning with Nikwax Tech Wash®, it is necessary to apply the Waterproofing Nikwax SoftShell Proof to restore the protection against the water.
There are other waterproofing products on the market but they can be harmful to the user's health and the environment, such as those that use fluorocarbons, or aerosols that are flammable.

For this reason, Nikwax SoftShell Proof Waterproofing is a safe-to-use product for softshell garments, it is aqueous, ecological, non-aerosol, non-flammable, without harmful solvents, volatile organic compounds or fluorocarbons and is respectful with the environment.
Nikwax SoftShell Proof Waterproofing has been specially designed for softshell fabric, to provide Durable Water Repellency (DWR), while maintaining breathability. This waterproofing does not need heat for the fabric to manifest its Durable Water Repellency (DWR), so the use of the dryer is not required.
Nikwax SoftShell Proof Wash-In Waterproofing comes in a size of 300 ml.
This product can be used in the washing machine or by hand.
It is applied quickly and easily in the washing machine, and Durable Water Repellency (DWR) takes effect during the drying process at room temperature. The waterproofing treatment in the washing machine ensures that the product reaches all areas of the garment.
To use in the washing machine:
- Wash first with Nikwax Tech Wash® detergent. Do not use traditional detergents. For subsequent waterproofing, the garments may be wet.
- Clean the detergent drawer of the washing machine so that no residue remains.
- Put a maximum of two clean items in the washing machine.
- Use 100 ml of Nikwax SoftShell Proof Wash-In for each garment.
- Choose a cycle for synthetic garments (30º) and a slow spin.
To use by hand:
- Gloves must be worn.
- Put a clean garment in 6 liters of hot water.
- Add 100 ml of Nikwax SoftShell Proof.
- Stir well so that it is soaked in water and the product, wait 5 to 10 minutes and stir well again.
- Rinse several times with cold water until the water runs clear.
After finishing the treatment with Nikwax SoftShell Proof ™ it is not necessary to apply heat to the garment for the performance of Durable Water Repellency (DWR) to be effective, so it can be air dried, and if done in a dryer, provided that the garment label allows it and with a delicate program.
